Vancouver proper has about 662,000 people, roughly 2.6 million across the metro area, and it's consistently one of the most expensive housing markets in the country. The city core runs mostly condo, detached homes carry a high price tag, and laneway houses are a common way to add density or rental income on an existing lot.
